The best way is to clean them often using warm water and dish soap. Avoid using floor cleaners like Pinesol or Minwax because they will build up a waxy film that will actually absorb more stains in the future. If soap and water won't clean the mess, use a gentle cleaner like Simple Green.

Twice a year I get down on my hands and knees and go to town. I use hot water with amonia and a little dish soap, take a bristle brush and scrub. This get into the cruves. Then I rinse with clean water. If it is real dirty I let the solution sit for a short time and scrub.
