Start with speed walking a few laps (3 - 5) Then find a good area to stretch. Place your hands on your hips, put one foot behind you and lean forward until you feel the stretch in your calf, repeat on the other side.

Start with a few high knees, then butt kicks, then run throughs. Then stretch shins, calves, quads, hip flexors and glutes. Don't forget to stretch your core, lower back and upper bpody. this is particularly important if you are doing explosive work, like running short sprints.

I good muscle stretching routine to follow is to start out by stretching you hamstrings. You can do this standing or sitting. Then stretch your groin muscles, the most effective way is while sitting. You can then stretch your hip flexors by sitting on the ground, crossing one leg over the other, and twisting the opposite elbow over the knee.

Make sure all parts of the leg are stretched and warm. Keep the quads, gluts, hamstrings, and calves warm and stretched. Make sure to walk to warm up as well.
