A good science project that involves a battery would be making some sort of quick electronic device from a kit at Radio Shack. I recommend the AM Radio kit.

Electrolysis with a 9 volt battery is a good one. If you use a car battery, try making a semi automatic coilgun. Search up "Yet Another Coilgun" on Google. Besides that, you can also try doing a "green" project, making a wind turbine with a charging circuit for lead acid 12Vs.
