What would cause brakes to vibrate?

I have a 1975 Volvo. When I brake, the car shakes really bad.

Any car that shakes when applying the brakes means you should take the car to a mechanic. It could be a couple of issues causing this. Either the brake pads need to be replaced because they are worn or maybe the rotors are bad.

Warped rotors or grooved pads could cause a car to vibrate or shake when braking. You should have a mechanic take a look at themas well as the suspension

The car is old. It sounds like the engine is going to stall when you brake fast or hard. The idle on the car wants to still go eventhough you have stopped the car. Have a service technician look at the car to see if it is something simple that you can do.
