My dog's are red, and I don't know if this is a serious problem.

It may be a serious problem, if you have noticed him licking the area it may just be irritated. Take him to a licensed veterinarian.

Red is generally a sign of inflammation. The red is increased blood flow responding to an infection. Please take your dog to see the vet.
