The Pine Tar game was played in 1983. After the Kansas City Royals' George Brett hit a home run in the 9th inning, the New York Yankees claimed that it should have been disallowed because he had too much pine tar on his bat. The umpires agreed and disallowed it.

The famous Pine Tar game took place in the 1980's at Yankee Stadium in New York. The Kansas City Royals were playing the Yanks, and Hall of Famer George Brett hit a home run for the Royals to take the lead. The Yankees had the umpire check for too much Pine Tar on Brett's bat, and they agreed.
