There are several types of parrot with yellow necks. The yellow-naped Amazonian parrot is mostly brilliant green, with a band of yellow across the back of the neck, and is one of the types frequently found in pet stores. Other varieties of yellow-necked parrots include the Cloncurry parrot, Mallee Ringneck, and Twenty-eight parrot, all of Australia.

You probably mean the Yellow Nape Amazon parrot, these lovely birds are very intelligent with a great sense of fun, they usually learn to speak and have a really human sounding voice! Generally well behaved, they can sometimes become noisy and agressive, but with care they can be rehabilitated. They have an average lifespan of between 50 and 60 years

There is a Yellow-nape Amazon, Yellow collared Macaw, Yellow Neck parrot indigenous to Guatemala, Senegal, some types of Conures, but I suspect that what you have seen is probably a Macaw, though this is not so often a ringed neck ,as the nape and bib- they are very dramatic looking.

The yellow-throated Hanging parrot,Coryllis A Gorge Jaune are native to the islands of Java and Bali of Indonesia. Their numbers are declining due to destruction of their natural habitat.

This is a rare complex bird. Almost all of these birds are male homosexuals. The few females hardly ever draw any attention. This plus the fact that they are notorious cowards and fall dead at the slightest provocation. Make sure his cage has a large mirror.
