It is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and either a standard or miniature Poodle. Hence why it is called a Labradoodle. They are very cute dogs in my opinion and were actually first bred in the late 1980's after a Labrador poodle mix in the book "Into the Water Barrier" by Sir Donald Campbell.

You would breed a Poodle with a Labrador dog. They take the Labrad and then they add the oodle part to get the name. They have just been doing it recently recognized in the AKC.

A Labradoodle is a mixed breed dog that is a cross between a Labrador Retriever, and a Poodle. A Labradoodle is not a purebred dog recognized by any registry, but is rather a designer breed. A designer dog is a dog that is bred from various recognized breeds for a specific appearance or temperament.
