The best tip is to determine if there is only one existing layer of shingles on your roof. If so, the weight bearing capacity of the roof will permit you to install another layer on top of the existing shingles rather than removing them. This saves a lot of time and trips to the landfill.

Its probably going to be extremely hot. Wear enough clothing to protect your skin and stay hydrated. Falling off the roof from heat exhaustion is possible if not careful.

Be very careful - many amateurs fall off rooftops and end up with serious head injuries. Don't do it yourself unless you have plenty of prior handyman experience.

Roofing is simple if you keep in mind that a roof is comprised of layers. Plywood , felt then shingles.
