As a small animal they are more susceptible to toxicity so keep poisonous substances like chocolate out of reach. Their protruding eyes make them prone to glaucoma and corneal dryness.

Think about your home environment. Chihuahuas are very small and some are extremely fragile. Boisterous children can easily injure or kill these small animals and they are extremely sensitive to temperature. Also make sure they are from a reliable breeder/shelter as they can have lots of health issues.

If you have time to spend a lot for time potty training and giving tons of attention, sounds normal but in my experience, they need it more than big dogs.
