Uganda is one of the most dangerous country in the world so take lots of precautions. Don't advertise that you are American, stay away from known crime areas and stay in the tourist areas, don't flash jewelry and money and wear expensive clothing or cameras that can target you as a tourist.

Uganda is not as dangerous as it once was. However it is advisable to check out the political situation in the region. It is not a place to spontaneously visit. Have all your arrangements made before you travel. Be aware of local petty criminals as well. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Once you change your money over, pay close attention to what note you are handing out during a transaction. Some notes (money) are very close in color but there is quite a difference in amounts, so always look closely at the numbers on the note to make sure you are giving what you think you are giving.

Uganda is a beautiful African country to visit. There is diverse culture, landscapes, and animals. It is one of the only places where people can see mountain gorillas. However, Uganda also has a dark history, the dictator Idi Amin was responsible for genocide. There are conflicts in the neighbouring countries of Sudan and the Congo that are dangerous to tourists.
