You need to be sure that whatever you are repainting has been cleaned and sanded to a smooth finish. If there are many layers of paint on the furniture that will have to be removed before painting. Paint your furniture outdoors or in a well ventilated garage with the appropriate paint for the type of furniture you will be painting.

I would think the most important thing would be to choose a low VOC paint. These paints help reduce or nearly eliminate harmful odors when painting. This would be great especially in children's bedrooms. Plus, if you use these paints, as soon as the furniture drys, you would be able to move right back in and get some rest!

Any bedroom furniture used in a childs room must have toxice free paint. In anyones room with allergies the same applies. Buy the best brand you can afford for durability.

If you are going to repaint bedroom furniture, the first step is to sand the furniture to get a good base for the paint.
