The lack of a tail of the Manx cat is due to a genetic mutation. In some cats, this mutation leads to a shortened spine which can lead to problems of the spinal cord, bladder, and intestines. You should be particularly aware of these potential problems so that you can seek help for your cat right when symptoms are present.

A Manx is a very affectionate breed that is cautious upon first acquaintance. They are easy to train, generally social, and great hunters (of mice that is). If you plan on breeding a Manx, know it is not uncommon for death to occur in the first few weeks, even in seemingly healthy kittens. They are very delicate.
