It is important to know what the appropriate dosage is for the size of the dog. Also it is good to know how long to give Metamucil to your dog. It may take time for the medication to work. It is best to consult your veterinarian if the Metamucil is not effective after that time has passed.

Metamucil is given to dogs for contipation. A dose of 2 to10 grams is to be mixed with wet food, give anomal plenty of water. It will work the metamucil and stimulate it to work, it can take up to 72 hours sometimes.Vets have other laxitives, depending on the severity of the constipation the vet knows which is better for the animal.

I wouldn't reccomend giving your dog metamucil. It could cause more a problem than an actual help. You might want to call your local pharmacy and see what they tell you.

It's not FDA approved for use in dogs or cats, but it is used by veterinary practice in those animals.
