Dogs can have muscle injuries due to trauma to the muscle or to over use. If this has happened, the best thing to do is limit any motion that would interfere with healing. In some cases, you should try to limit the dogs activity to just a minimal amount. If you suspect something more severe, have a vet do x-rays.

Dogs with pulled muscle can be a hard thing to cope with some get ugly and will bite because they hurt some will lay around and not move because they dont like it when they move and it hurts and others you will never know they have them because they never act any different.

Dogs will generally not weight bear for 1 - 2 days, and may be tender for up to 2 weeks. Warm heat packs may ease pain. Veterinary assistance should be sought to rule out fractures. Anti-inflammatories may be prescribed and occasionally pain relief medications. Do not give human medications.

Dogs can "pull" a muscle the same way humans can. Your vet can prescribe medication, Rimadyl for example, to help with the pain. In addition, you can gently massage and stretch the muscle or apply ice by either a compress or by ice massage.
