Cockatiels have a wide variety of vocalizations, each with individual meanings. The very best reference on cockatiels is Diane Grindol's Cockatiels for Dummies. An excellent internet group devoted to cockatiels is Tiel Talk. You'll soon learn your cockatiel's sounds and what they mean, but do some research to help you learn quicker.

While Cockatiel's have been taught to talk I generally I haven't seen a whole lot of birds that actually do talk. They will chirp and squeak and make tons of little bird noises. You can tell when they get angry. The feathers on their head will fluff up and they will make noises that sound mean.

A cockatiel that feels theatened or frightened will scream. Cockatiels are afraid of the sudden movements of small animals , thunder fireworks, the sounds of outdoor workers near that will spark an episode of screaming etc, very loud singing, chirping or squawking at sunrise and sunset are normal types of vocaliztion.
