This is most likely due to not enough water, particularly if the leaves have drooped and turned brown. Hydrangea enjoy water (Hydra, from the Greek hydro- water), and you need to establish a consistent watering schedule with this shrub. This can also happen after a too-heavy watering following transplantation, a kind of shock to a plant that has dried out.

If your hydrangea's leaves are turning brown it may not be getting enough water. You should keep your hydrangea consistently watered.

It will happen while watering too low. Basically hydrangea will like more water. Normally tips of the leaves will become brown because roots will not absorb good moisture sometimes in a dry spell. This problem will also happen while in transplantation. Over watering will make the leaves yellow and black at the tips, while less watering will make the leaves brown.
