What should I do if the sum function is always zero in Excel 2003?

You should click on the box with the function and note the colored boxes that appear around other cells in the table. Your function captures the wrong or no boxes.

The most likely cause for your problem is that you have spaces in your formula. Check your formula and remove spaces, there should be no spaces in the cells. Otherwise it could be that you did not format the cell to be numbers.

Check that setting on the menu Tools->Options->Calculation Tab. If it is in manual, change it to automatic, and the formulas should be updated.

Ensure that the fields selected for the sum function are all of the same type and none of them are null.
