Something is wrong with your transmission if you can't shift into 3rd gear so drive it in 2nd gear until you can get to where you are going. Then you should have it towed to a mechanic. Or drive it in 2nd gear until you can drive it to your mechanic. In either case you need a mechanic.

Simply avoid third gear. It is usually an intermediary gear anyhow. After reaching second gear, just press the gas pedal a bit loger to leapfrog to fourth gear. You should however, take in in to be checked because it may signal a bigger problem with the gearbox that may compromise the functioning of the other gears.

Try to put the car into third gear when pressing the clutch down with the foot. The gear box is probably in need of replacement. Leave the car for 30 minutes to cool down then take the car for a run. If the gears are not running smoothly a new gear box is the answer.

Your best bet would be to take it into a service place to get the best assessment. It could be a number of issues and it is better to have a professional decide the best course of action for your car to get it back to the original condition you had.
