What should I do if my Sansa disk freezes?

Usually if Sansa Disk freezes you need to reset the disk or contact SanDisk for a possible replacement under your warranty (1 year in the U. S. ). The soft reset is quite useful

I think your Sansa disk had some technical problem. Do power recycling. ie, just replace its battery and plug in to USB of your desktop then check the screen display 'USB connected'. Then unplugged it and insert battery and press 'Menu' button again. Then do the above steps. If the problem continue. Then contact the Technical Support.
