What should I do if my red eared slider turtles shell is turning black?

Is he acting sick, or are you just basing the idea of him being sick on his shell? I think you'd need to take him to the vet.

Check to make sure you are providing the correct diet for the turtle. Also make sure you have clean water with a functional pump to filter out wastes. Ask your veterinarian.

Sometimes these turtles shells will just naturally change from red to black. Most commonly around the spots. If your worried still take him to a vet.

He may very well be nervous,but I highly doubt he's NOT going inthe water at all,he may very well be going in the water at night when you are sleeping.
