First, check and make sure the air filter is not plugged. Second, make sure all the vents are open, particularly return air vents. If this appears ok, the blower is not running to speed, or the unit is low on charge. You will need a service person.

If your home AC is freezing up, you may have a freon leak. In this case, you should have a certified HVAC professional come out and check you ENTIRE AC system for other problems but mainly to pinpoint that leak. Once the leak is pinpointed, they can give you a quote to fix the leak, and do any maintenance.

In most cases when a unit freezes up it is low on freon. You can help keep the ice down to a minimum by putting the "fan" to on instead of auto, and then add some freon.
