Try pressing the red reset button - worked for my Badger button. But I had no humming - just silence!

Garbage disposal has solids stuck inside and is jammed. Detach it from the sink and flush thoroughly with water while it's upside down. Still won't turn? Get a 7/16" deep socket, ratchet and extension on the nut down inside and rotate the mechanism back and forth until the debris is ground up or falls out and the rotor spins freely.

Your Badger 5 may be stuck if it hums and the blades don't rotate. Do you have the tool that comes with it? Fix it to the bottom (right at the center) and rotate it both ways. This should set it free. Lemme know if this works for you!

You can see if any piece of your garbage has gotten stuck. Use a flashlight to check. If you find something in the blades use a wrench or a long pliers to get it out. You may need to jiggle the blades a little to get it out.  add a comment

Unplug your Badger5 before you work on it. And use water to flush when you turn it on! Just my 2 cents!!  add a comment

The humming sound you are hearing is the motor trying to spin. Do not leave it running. This will burn out the motor. Your disposal should have a reset button to push. See if that helps reset your disposal. If this doesn't work you may have something stuck. Try taking apart the disposal and looking for something stuck inside.

Be careful as the motor could get burnt if it runs but the blades are stuck. If you can't get the stuff that is preventing the blades from rotating out, get a tech to come and open up the unit to set it right again.

You should first try changing out your cables. You could have a short. Another likely suspect is your power supply. You could have inadvertently changed polarity.

The Badger 5 is a fine rototiller. If it is just humming then the auto-ignition system isn't working but you can still manually start it.

The humming noise means that something is jammed in the disposal, preventing it from spinning. First turn it upside down and try flushing it out with water. Now loosen the center nut and tighten it again. This should free the rotor so it will spin properly.

My Badger 5 garbage disposal will not work. It makes a humming noise but will not spin. I hit the reset button, used the hex wrench provided and turned it clockwise, used a broom handle through the top and it still won't start.
