What should I do if my 6- and 4-year-olds are acting out?

Well, first of all, if your children are not listening to you, then do not reward them. You should set aside some reasonable punishments as consequences for their "behavior". For example, if they are not listening, tell them they will not be able to play or watch tv for some time.

Time outs work to give a child time to calm down. Have a couple areas in your house that can be designated as the time out spot. The time out spot should be a boring corner or a seat on the stairs. They should remain in time out until they are calm enough to apologize.

You need to get control over them. If they act up put them in time out or take away privileges until they agree to behave. Reward good behavior.
