Sore throat is fairly common and can be safely treated with over the counter medication. However three weeks is a bit long without any relief so you may have to go to the doctor to see if there is something more than a simple sore throat. He may have to give you a specialized antibiotic.

If you've had a sore throat for three weeks than there may be a symptom of an unresolved underlying condition or disease, such as a sinus infection or mononucleosis. It might be best to see your doctor.

There are several possible reasons for a sore throat lasting 3 weeks. You could have swollen tonsils and need to have them removed. Possibly, you swallowed something that scratched your throat and it is slow to heal. You should consult a doctor as it has been a very long time.

Anytime you have a sore throat for more than seven days you need to see a doctor. Most likely you have tonsilitis or strep. The doctor will have to provide you an antibiotic.

If your throat has been sore for three weeks, then you should definately make an appointment with your Dr. as soon as posiable. You could have strep throat, which requires an antibotic to cure. You could also have a severe case of mono or even the worst thing throat cancer. Just make an appointment to find out right away.
