Since it is on the heels of a root canal, I would consult a dentist because there is risk of infection doing serious damage. Otherise rinsing with salt water is a quick abscess cure and cleanse.

An abscess tooth after root canal indicates that the canal was not cleaned properly during the treatment. First if there is pain ,it should first be relieved by draining the abscess followed by an antibiotic course. Another option is to do apicoectomy.

First you should contact the dentist that done your root canal. Usually they will prescribe you some antibiotics and then schedule you to come into the office seven days after you fill the prescription to have the tooth x-ray and either work on the tooth more or extract the tooth.

First of all see your dentist, you may simply need antibiotics. However, it may be necessary to have root canal surgery, clean out the abscess via a window made through the bone which is best done by an endodontist. If it's not possible to remove all the infection it may be necessary to extract the tooth.
