You may have to put him in a collar to stop the scratching. An inflatable collar looks like a swim floatie and is lightweight and less cumbersome than the cones.

Are you sure it's not a growth totally unrelated to the fall? Try to examine it fully and be sure it is not a growth or a tick causing irritation. If it does not heal within a few days, with improvement daily, it needs to be seen by your veterinarian.

If it is just a minor lesion, I would clean it up as well as possible and put some ointment on it. He'll mess with it, but you can try!

You can purchase a 'collar' from a vet clinic, this will stop him scratching until it's healed. also try bathing it with hibitane to clean it.
