What should I do differently if my homemade bread is always crumbly?

I like baking Italian bread, but it always comes out dry and crumbly. What could I be doing wrong?

You need to tweak your recipe. Try reducing the amount of eggs you are using. You can also increase the amount of oil you are using in your dough mixture. Also, try baking it at a lower temperature.

My husband is wonderful at baking breads. He said that it could be several factors. You may not be kneading the bread enough, you may need to add a bit more oil (butter/margarine, etc). He also said to make sure you put a pan of steaming water on the rack below the bread while it is baking.

First, check your oven temperature with an oven thermometer, it sounds like you are baking at too high a temperature. Second, you may want to add a bit more moisture to your dough.
