Determine how they are getting in, first of all. You need to trap the birds and close their entrance. You can use mesh wire or other suitable materials to do this. You will need to clean up droppings and nests and such. You can proof your area with Birdslide to keep them from entering again.

You can send a cat up into the attic to scare off the birds, this is probably the best way to do it.
