Most will heal after 6 weeks on their own without surgery. In some cases, the doctor will suggest non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) or in other cases, cortisone injections into the spine next to the problematic area. Surgery is only used as a last resort. Often, seeing a chiropractor can help the issue.

Treatment for central disc protrusion - if with less pain, bed rest, physiotherapy, pain medication, home exercises. For over pain, surgery recommended. Some disc protrusions will cure on their own.

I would believe that a disc protrusion needed surgical repair where theres a incision over the are the dics protrudes from and then removed with a saw and or ronguer.
