The carbon containing materials are many. The matters containing carbon only are graphite, gas carbon , diamond. Coals and lignite contain largely carbon. The organic compounds also contain carbon. The hydrocarbons contain carbon. In these are included gasoline, petrol, diesel,kerosine,furnace oil and all types of lubricants. Another great class is the plastics of all sorts .

The way I understand it, the carbon family consists of five elements. They are carbon, silicon, lead, germanium, and tin. Out of those five, carbon is arguably the most important to life and the world.
