Pop contains carbon dioxide which makes the soda fizz. This is a gas that we breathe in and out every day so it is safe for us to drink.

The fizz in soda comes from carbonation. The soda ingredients are mixed and it is placed in a vessel and carbon dioxide is added to it. The carbon dioxide dissolves and attaches itself to the soda. It is then bottled. When you open it the co2 escapes causing bubbles.

Thanks to science class, I can answer this question. Pop fizzes because of the carbon dioxide that is in them.

CO2 make pop fizz that is why when you open a can or bottle of pop it fizzes when you open it, for fountain drinks when you are filling up your cup you will notice foam at the top and that is the C02 making it fizzy.
