The Egyptian diet contains more grains and vegetables than meat. They grow wheat to make a pita type bread. Rice, olives, eggplants, beans and lentils are the primary part of Egyptian cuisine. Their use of meat is much less than the Western world. Desserts are made from sweetened dates and figs. Vegetarians would find this cuisine very accommodating.

Egyptians eat many of the same foods as others in northern Africa and the middle East: lentils, rice, tomatoes, flatbreads, and lamb being common.
