What kind of tile is best for basement flooring?

I don't want to use carpet in case the sewer backs up again.

Anything weather resistant is best. I would recommend a strong linolium plastic base to be sure that you will be safe both from industrial use and water damage.

Concrete tile is the best for basement flooring. It looks clean and is easily washed and dried. Or another option would be those inexpensive peel-and-stick tiles that can be found in any home supply store and that cost anywhere from about 88-cents, up to a few dollars a square foot.

Travitene tile can work for all floors. Most people use them in the kitchen. Ceramic tiles can be used in a basement for easy clean up in case of spills.

Before laying any tile or other flooring, have a plumbing inspection, because removing tile for repairs is a hassle. It depends on your taste and budge as to which kind of tile to select. Real stone is a high-end finish, but it can be pricey. Porcelain is durable and attractive.
