With regular oil changes and preventative maintainence there shouldn't be too many items that require attention any more than newer cars. If you upgrade tune-up parts (plugs, wires, cap and rotor, etc) to newer parts they will last just as long. Age will require the replacement of hoses and electrical repair but, once this is done you'll be good.

Older trucks need special care, make sure that you are using a high mileage formulated oil for your routing oil changes, check all hoses frequently for cracks and always check all fluids before driving off.

Just check the normal thing like spark-plugs, belts, and filters regularly. It is always a good idea to visually inspect the suspension and undercarriage on regular intervals also. You should lubricate suspension components and look out for corrosion.

You are going to need to do an oil change and then you may want to put spark plugs and wires in it.
