Any kind of fish can eventually end up with red gills if not cared for properly and regularly. Red gills are a sure sign that your fish is in dire need of medical attention and the water in the tank has an amonia level that is to high for his species.

This could come from different things. Fish with red gills are usually the ones who have large amounts of blood. Fish can have red gills from ammonia poisoning. Red gills also can be the product of a gill birth defect, too.

if it's a goldfish, post on a sick goldfish forum like. red streaks are often caused by poor water quality. high nitrates or low oxygen result in them. if the water isn't the issue then you could be looking at a bacterial infection. you need to check your water before giving any antibiotic.
