He had a black poodle named Rufus. During his time he was one of the least trusted politicians in England. Black Dog was the name of Winston Churchill's depression disorder.

Winston Churchill, despite his tough persona, was an animal lover. He loved dogs in particular, and cited them for helping him get through his frequent bouts with depression. He had a particular love for Rufus, his tiny black poodle. He loved to let Rufus roam all over his country estate.
