Although all kids are different, most 5 year olds need pretty close supervision, and his chores should reflect this. Good options include helping out with things that you are doing, rather than doing things all alone. This can include drying dishes, helping sweep (while you dust), vacuuming, working together to clean his room, and the like.

Five year olds can help out doing many things, including putting their clothes in the laundry, unloading dishwasher (help) and removing their plates from the table after dinner. If you have a pet he or she could be responsible for cleaning up after them, picking up trash in the yard and cleaning their rooms.
