Um...B.S.! You might, perhaps, use Algebra in all of these fields, but do these jobs "require" algebra? I can personally assure you that these jobs on your list DO NOT require Algebra: accountant, marketing manager, business manager, carpenter, plumbers, dentist, doctor, nurse, and fin. planner.  add a comment

As far as Im concerned the only time you need to know algebra is when you're a teacher and you need to torture kids = P  add a comment

Drafter? like for the military? Why do you need algebra for that?. "Wanna join the military?". "Why?". "We pay good...."Do I have to go to war?". "You'll have to travel but most likley wont see any fighting". "Do I get a gun?". "Yes". "okay!"...Done  add a comment

Artillery Gunner? explain..  add a comment

you dont need algebra for an artillery gunner unless you r tryin to find out how much blood is going to come out of someone  add a comment
posted by Anonymous
If you aren't using algebra as an artillery gunner that you must really suck at your job. You need to know the distance of your target and how to calculate the best way to hit your target with the least amount of collateral damage. A nurse needs to calculate medication, etc.  add a comment

you still use algebra!!!! just not much. it is the easy stuff. you give out prescriptions using miligrams  add a comment

You actually are using algebra in all those jobs its just not titled what they called it when you learned it in school. You most likely do a lot in your head but it really is actual formulas and processes you learned in algebra!  add a comment

You'd be surprised how common algebra is in the "real world." Accountants, Business Executives, Carpenters, Tile Layers all need algebra to be successful. Some higher levels of math, however, are less common in the real world but they are good to learn because they teach a certain type of thinking that is valuable in many circumstances.

I would like real proof that these careers actually use algebra on a daily basis for their careers. And what type of algebra is used?  add a comment

Algebra is very important. Everything imaginable uses higher level math. Roads, bridges, power grid, infrastructure, vehicles, oil drilling, the list goes on and on. I certainly wouldn't want people that don't think math is important working for me. Dave

This is not true. Illegals build the roads and bridges etc and they never went to school at all. They can't even sign their pay check. x  add a comment

Answer by  archaeocat (21)

Algebra can be required in archaeology jobs if the archaeologist or technician needs to use a G.I.S. (Geographic Information System) program, like ArcGIS, to plot and correlate map data for a dig site. The map data input system uses a standard algebraic (x,y) coordinate point-plotting system that is studied in most algebra courses.

posted by Anonymous
(x,y) co-oredinates are now studied in trigonometry in most places(i dont know why...) and you need to remember, algebra is using a number with a NUMERICAL value in the form of a letter or symbol, and writing numbers is much much more simple and easyer to understand, algerbra is onefhoseubjectsithoealracticalse  add a comment

So Does every other computer program. They all follow the basic order of opperations.Whats the big deal all we do now is plug in the data. The basic standards we learn is useless. We have became dependent on technology.  add a comment

Pharmacists and nurses use algebra everyday for meds. Especially those who are working with children and infants because every medicine has to be calculated based on the kid's weight. we find X all the time.

Seriously, guys, get a LIFE. I hate algebra as much as all of you but even I know I'll need it (even if it makes my life miserable.) What about higher maths like geometry and calculus and trigonometry? What jobs use THOSE? (Besides accountants, engineers, etc.)

The radio station I listen to asked this question. They had their listeners call in if they used algebra. One of the top callers were truck drivers. When they are figuring their fuel. You would really be surprised how much you use algebra in your every day life.

Numerous jobs require algebra. Almost any job that uses math will use algebra. This includes not only careers like engineering or accounting, but lots of other things, as well, such as nursing (or almost any other job in the medical field).

The comment above mine is correct. Algebra is the most useless subject ever taught. It's worse then the vowel song in first grade. Seriously algebra teachers, get a life. :)

Almost every comment on here is negative towards math. Algebra really isn't that bad. People just post asinine comments because they don't try to understand. There was even a person that said "I wish Algebra wasn't learned in school... " I guess someone can't learn Math or Language Arts.  add a comment
