The historical fiction novel Milkweed, by Spinelli in 2003, is a poignant and heart-wrenching tale of a young orphan escaping the Nazis during the Holocaust. The frightened Romany Gypsy boy is harbored by a group of Jews. The unnamed boy is conflicted by his identity and traumatic events engulfing him.Its an engaging tale of friendship written as bittersweet memoirs.

Milkweed is a very intriguing book. When reading this book the reader really gets into the main character, an orphaned boys, shoes. It is worth the time.

Milkweed is a short novel for students grades 5 - 7 set in World War II Warsaw. The protagonist is a young orphan boy who is confused by the world around him and learns to take delight in daily activities. It is a story of victory over confusion.

Milkweed is a great insightful story written through the eyes of a young innocent boy as he tries to survive in hostile conditions no child should have to endure.
