What is wrong if your dog shakes his head a lot?

You may have a flea problem on your hands. Make sure you sit him down and really check his ears. Open the flaps and see if you see any black residue. Are the ears red? Does he itch them as well? You need to then take them to the vet.

Did you check his ears? He could have ear mites, you can buy drops for the ears to eliminate mites. First clean the ear with a small cotton ball with baby oil on it. Apply the ear drops as indicated on the bottle. I use on my dog morning and night if she starts to shake her head.

Head shaking can indicate a couple of problems, most notably brain trauma and ear mites. Unless your dog has had a recent injury or infection it's likely ear mites. There are both over the counter and prescription ear drops to cure this problem.

This can be caused by ear mites and is usually accompanied by scratching at ears. Something might be lodged in the dog's ear. Check ears for overgrowth of hair.
