The edges of our teeth can, over time, become transparent. This is a normal process of aging and is not typically considered abnormal, but is related to changes in dentin.

Teeth thatare see-through or transparent on the edges are most likely due to grinding the teeth during the day or night. This is common for people of all ages but is usually a gradual process. In most cases, there is not pain that is associated with the results of grinding.

This condition may be indicative of an enamel problem or thing dentin. If the edges of the tooth are transparent, this may be a sign of abnormal wearing from a jaw misalignment or grinding of the teeth.

This is most likely due to the enamel on your teeth eroding with age. When teeth become transparent, the may be worn down to the inner layer or dentin. If your dentist feels treatment is necessary, he may use a white bond to cover the area.

I have heard that if you have too much acid in your diet it can cause teeth to become transparent. Maybe a change in diet could help keep it from continuing to damage your teeth.

Transparent teeth may be a result of a genetic defect which disturbs normal developement and makes your teeth look transparent. If not genetic, then it may be caused by mechanical abrasion from an opposite tooth cap or bridge or very heavy brushing which might have eroded the enamle on the edges.
