Things that would cause the key not to turn in the ignition are: You're using the wrong key, the key is too worn and to not displace the tumbler pins enough, or there is corosion in the tumbler. Spray a shot of WD-40 into the keyhole and see if that helps the situation.

Do you have the correct key? Try holding a slight pressure against the steering wheel then try to turn key. If it turns with pressure relieved against column lock then it's not a big problem. If it won't turn then you may have a faulty ignition switch which needs replaced.

If you don't have a stuck ignition lock then you probably have a problem with the vehicles security system. Especially if you car have programmed ignition keys. Sometime when the security system fail it prevents the key from working. Have a dealer run a check on the system. If you car doesn't have a security system try replacing the ignition.

the steering lock mechanism could be in a bind, try turning steering wheel as you are turning key this sometimes does the trick. also locking mechanism could be bad as you may have to replace the lock, if you have a spare key compare it to you key the youuse and make sure one key isnt wore down.
