Most of the time when a car "rattles" at idle or start up it is from a loose or rusted out exhaust sheild.

If it rattles and feels as if the vehicle is about to cut off, the easiest way to fix this is the get a tune up. It could be because of a clogged air filter or a dirty, worn, or dead spark plugs. You may also want to check your engine mounts.

Where does the rattle come from? If it's under the car, more than likely its a loose heat shield on the exhaust system. Do not remove them, but find a way to secure them.

It may only be a loose heat shield on the exaust system. Another possibility is a bearing on one of the belt pulleys. It could also be low oil pressure.
