What is the Spanish Pesetas and what is the history behind it?

The Spanish Pesetas was the silver dollar of the powerful Spanish Empire, people would cut it into 8 pieces (i.e. pieces of 8) and use them in early American colonial history. Also the source of the word peso.

The Pesetas was the currency of Spain. It was introduced in 1869. But it was replaced by euro in 2002.

Pesetas was Spains currency from the mid 1800's when Spain joined the Latin Union. The Latin Union broke up in the early 1900's but Spain still kept the Pesetas. In 2002 The Pesegtas were replaced by the EURO, although anyone who is still in posession of pesetas can cash them in at the National Banks without penalty.

The Spanish currency from 1869 to 2002, when it was replaced by the euro. This year the fishing town Mugardos is using the peseta again in its economy (in 2011).
