Compared to the weight of an elephant, anywhere from 6,000 to 16,000 pounds, its brain is relatively small, weighing about 11 to 12 pounds. However, the elephant's brain is believed to be the largest brain of any animal. To put it in perspective, the human brain usually weighs one and a half to two pounds.

Elephants though they are huge their brains are small. Proportional to its body it has a very small brain, smaller then a human brain. Elephants are not smart animals, its brain is about the size of a basket ball maybe a little bigger but not much. I hope that helps.

I disagree. I have found elephants to be extremely intelligent, as well as smart. They have excellent memories, as well.  add a comment

Elephants do have the largest brain for all land mammals. It is located in the back of the skull. They are born with 35% of the mass of an adult brain. Also, they are one of the more intelligent animals.

An elephant's brain is around 4 to 5 kilograms. Their brains are larger than humans, but the ratio of brain size to body size, is smaller than that of humans. Otherwise, elephants have the largest brains in the animal kingdom. Don't confuse this with intelligence, as they have an intelligence comparable to humans, orangutan, dolphin, and parrots.

Compared to what? Your brain weighs just under 3 pounds: an elephant's brain weights about four and a half pounds.
