A countrys flag is a representation of the pride of that country. It stands for everything that the country itself stands for. A good example would be the US flag, it stands for freedom which is what the US stands for.

A country's flag is just a symbol. It represents the country, and thus represents everything that it stands for. Defacing a country's flag can be the same as insulting the country, which is why every country holds its own flag in such high esteem. Other than that, it's just colorful cloth.

The flag of the United States of America represents the strength of the country, so it should not be disrespected. It should not fly in the rain or touch the ground. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies, and the 50 stars represent all of the current 50 states of the Unites States of America.
