The best spacing for recessed lighting is about four to six feet apart. My basement lights are recessed and they are about four and a half feet apart and it is perfect. Depends on what room you are putting it in.

This is dependent upon the size of the light fixtures. The wattage of the bulbs and area you have to install them. Also you need to take into consideration the lighting affects of each fixture before deciding how to space your lights.

You basically take the space criteria of the lighting fixture and multiply that with the ceiling height. For example if criteria is 1.3 then you would multiply by example height of 8 feet to get the spacing.
