All you need to do is get a nut off from the tree and let it root. Once that happens, just take it out and plant it.

The proper way of propagate the walnut tree is by grafting process. This would be done by small cut on to a root stock.

Walnut trees in the US are grafted onto black walnut, so you should plant a black walnut seed next spring, or buy a young plant for the rootstock. Use a whip graft to attach a live piece of your tree's wood to the black walnut one foot from the ground in late winter. They should be the same diameter.

They can be started from seed that has been properly stratified. Grafting a cutting on a rootstock is another way.

There are many ways to propagate trees. You can graft, the process of cutting a branch and fusing it together with another established tree. Air layer, a process of forcing roots to grow from a branch and then there is 'Rooting' which is trying to root a cutting that you've obtained from the tree.

Few methods for walnut tree propagation are growing from seed and graft onto rootstock. Temperature should be around 40 to 55 degrees.
