The best treatment is rest for the affected area. Sometimes the doctor will recommended physical therapy to strengthen the muscles to the affected area or pain medications may be prescribed.

A combination of cortisone injections along with a prescribed muscle relaxer and anti-inflammatory have greatly relieved the pinched nerve pain in my friend's neck. The doctor recommended applying an ice pack on the painful area during occasional flare-ups, which really helps. Physical therapy has been suggested as well but so far, my friend has been doing fine without it.

Usually the cause of the pinched nerve cannot be found. Most people experience pain with a pinched nerve so the main treatment is pain control. Your doctor will try to control the pain without oversedation.
